Michigan is home to a diverse array of plant and animal species – and today we’d like to highlight one of them! The hart’s tongue fern (Asplenium scolopendrium) is an evergreen fern native to various parts of the northern hemisphere, and is classified as an endangered and critically imperiled species by the state of Michigan. Deriving its name from its leaves’ resemblance to a deer’s tongue, this fern is extremely rare in North America, found only in isolated areas of Ontario, Alabama, Tennessee
