A whale was stranded near San Marine, south of Waldport on the Oregon Coast, since Saturday night after it reportedly became tangled in fishing line. Rescue efforts continued into early Monday, with crews using a pulley system to try to free the animal. By 9:15 a.m., rescuers stepped back to let the high tide come in, hoping the whale might free itself. However, by 10:30 a.m., the whale remained stranded on the beach with high tide receding.
