Now you see it .. now you don't. The castle building down on Barnstaple's Castle Green was a magnificent private residence for generations. Acquired by the council in the 1920s it was used as a civic building & council offices - for about 50 years until they got bored of it & knocked it down, deciding that the Civic Centre was a much nicer place for them to live.
