Brock Nelson had a goal and an assist and the New York Islanders took down the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Tuesday night. Kyle Palmieri and Ryan Pulock also scored, and Ilya Sorokin finished with 27 saves for New York in its final game before the NHL trade deadline and a three-game west-coast road trip.

The New York Islanders (28-26-7) got a much-needed two points on Tuesday night, beating the Winnipeg Jets (42-16-4) 3-2 on Long Island. Kyle Palmieri, Brock Nelson, and Ryan Pulock were the goalscorers for the Islanders.

The Islanders are 0-1-0 against the Jets this season, falling 4-3 on Feb. 7 in Winnipeg. Simon Holmstrom, Marc Gatcomb and Kyle Palmieri scored for the Isles, whose third period comeback bid – they outshot Winnipeg 19-6 in the final frame – fell short. The Islanders have won four straight home games against the Jets.
