The Indianapolis Colts will reportedly name Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback over Anthony Richardson, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Given Richardson's injury history plus general concerns about his development stagnating because of the turbulent start to his NFL career, Indianapolis signed former New York Giants first-round pick Daniel Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract to push Richardson and compete for the starting quarterback job.

Anthony Richardson completed six of his first eight passes, leading the Indianapolis Colts to a touchdown on his first series before the Green Bay Packers rallied late for a 23-19 victory in the preseason.

If you ask assistant GM Ed Dodds, the answer is simple. "No," Dodds said in response to that question. Why does Dodds believe that? "He's young. He's talented and we knew it was going to be a long-term project," Dodds said. On the field this summer, Richardson has made clear strides with his overall accuracy and decision-making.

It’s hard to believe that Richardson will beat out Jones for the quarterback job based on the head start Jones had in the early offseason. Richardson worked out with quarterback guru Tom Gormely, who helped improve Josh Allen ’s accuracy.

Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen has still not set a timetable to name a starting quarterback. But as the Colts break the Grand Park portion of training camp, it is clear that time is drawing thin for a winner to emerge between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
