College football teams must now actually compete for a national title. It's a bit better than everyone just deciding they're the champions. Auburn claimed four additional national titles on Tuesday, recognizing itself as nine-time champs.

Cam Newton will join Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley as the four former Tigers to have their jersey number retired at Auburn.

The school announced that it would be retiring Newton’s No. 2 number after he led the football program to a national title in 2010 and won the Heisman Trophy. He is one of the best players in Auburn history and is only the fourth Auburn player to ever have his number retired, joining Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, and Terry Beasley.
