More than 100 firefighters are battling two blazes on the slopes of South Africa’s Table Mountain. National parks authorities said Wednesday they were starting to bring them under control after the fires threatened to move toward nearby Cape Town.

Firefighters have battled a blaze on the slopes in the national park for days. The fire spread overnight toward Cape Town’s central business district.

All available resources had been deployed to contain the fire, South African National Parks, which oversees the mountain and the surrounding reserve, said.

CAPE TOWN - Firefighters are battling a raging fire this morning, on the Newlands side of Table Mountain. The fire flared up on Tuesday in areas inaccessible to ground crews, forcing the deployment of additional aerial resources.
