Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberals retained power in the country's election on Monday, but fell short of the majority government he had wanted to help him negotiate tariffs with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mark Carney's Liberal Party has won the Canadian election. In his victory speech, Carney told supporters that "President Trump is trying to break" Canada so that "America can own" the country. In his concession speech, defeated Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said "hard lessons" had been learned from the election.
