Hundreds of additional National Guard troops are headed to Washington, D.C., from half a dozen Republican-led states, bolstering President Donald Trump's aggressive move to flood the city with soldiers and federal agents in what he says is an effort to fight violent crime.
In an additional post, Trump referred to the upcoming meeting as a "Big Day," stating his excitement about the number of European leaders visiting. "Big day at the White House tomorrow. I've never had so many European leaders at one time. It’s my great honor to host them!!!" Trump wrote.
Gov. Jeff Landry said he was sending 135 members of the Louisiana National Guard to Washington D.C. as part of President Donald Trump's federal crackdown on crime in the city.
Three states are deploying hundreds more National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., at the request of the Trump administration. A White House official told CBS News the troops "may be armed," but they won't be making arrests.
