Erin is a large hurricane and is expected to grow "substantially in size" as it moves over the western Atlantic this week, according to the Hurricane Center. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles.
Erin is the first hurricane to develop over the Atlantic this year, and meteorologists are closely tracking its path and forecast.
Hurricane Erin on Sunday dropped in intensity overnight, but is expected to regain strength as its path shifts, prompting new warnings and watches to be issued by the Bahamas while the National Hurricane Center kept track of two other Atlantic systems.
