The Overland Park Fire Department says the body of a 62-year-old woman was recovered Monday morning on a trail experiencing flash flooding.

Overland Park rescue crews have confirmed that a woman was killed Monday morning after flash floods hit parts of the Kansas City metro.

The National Weather Service released an updated flash flood warning at 6:15 a.m. on Thursday in effect until 9 a.m. The warning is for Clay, Jackson, Carroll, Lafayette and Ray counties.

The threat of flash flooding on Sunday afternoon was focused over parts of the Midwest, where flood watches have been posted from Missouri to West Virginia, including the cities of Indianapolis and Cincinnati. Rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast to sweep across the Midwest region over the next 24 hours.
