TEL AVIV, Israel -- Israel faced sharp criticism as it stopped the entry of all food and other supplies into Gaza on Sunday and warned of “additional consequences” for Hamas if a fragile ceasefire isn't extended. Mediators Egypt and Qatar accused Israel of violating humanitarian law by using starvation as a weapon.

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has vowed that neither Hamas nor the Palestinian authorities will govern the Gaza Strip when the 15-month-old war ends. Netanyahu disclosed that he is “committed” to the United States’ proposal to take over the Gaza Strip and displace its Palestinian residents.

Qatar, a key negotiator of the ceasefire, accused Israel of violating the deal. The U.N. relief chief said aid access must be allowed under international law.
