Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. is closing three video-game studios and halting work on a highly anticipated Wonder Woman title in a bid to boost the profitability of its interactive entertainment business.

Warner Bros. Games is pulling the plug on a "Wonder Woman" title and shutting down three studios in a cost-cutting move.

WB is also shuttering the studio behind it, Monolith, the team behind the Lord of the Rings duology Shadow of War and Shadow of Mordor.

The cuts reflect a refocusing of the games division on major franchises such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones and DC Comics, primarily Batman.

Warner Bros. Games is making big cuts, closing three studios — Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB Games San Diego — and canceling its long-in-development Wonder Woman game, the publisher told employees on Tuesday. All projects from those studios have been canceled.
