As MSNBC leaves NBCUniversal for Versant (formerly, SpinCo.), the cable news channel is rebranding to an acronym that stands for My Source for News, Opinion and the World. Right, so the MS no longer stands for Microsoft, but it’s still there.

MSNBC will change its name later this year as part of Versant’s separation from NBCUniversal, according to CNBC. The political news network will drop the peacock logo and rebrand as My Source News Opinion World,
Anti-Trump news anchor Rachel Maddow defended MSNBC’s rebrand to MS NOW – arguing that the lefty cable channel would no longer have to vie for owner NBCUniversal’s “leftovers” and adding that “we’re competing with them now.
The Versant split means that journalists and executives that have previously worked for both networks now have to choose one.
CNN's Marcus Mabry, Crooked Media’s Madeleine Hareringer, and ABC News’ Scott Matthews are among the big names joining the executive suite. It is losing Steve Kornacki to NBC but gaining NBC's Jacob Soboroff (both had split their time in recent years.)
