Vancouver Whitecaps sign homegrown midfielder Liam Mackenzie to MLS deal
VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed homegrown midfielder Liam Mackenzie to a Major League Soccer contract. The deal, announced Tuesday, runs through the 2028 season with a club option for 2029. Mackenzie made his MLS debut on March 22 when Vancouver dropped a 3-1 decision to the Chicago Fire.
Brian Gutierrez had himself a day, helping secure three points for the Fire in a stunning 3-2 comeback win over St. Louis CITY SC. Winger Philip Zinckernagel brought them level with 23 minutes to spare, before setting up the 21-year-old midfielder for the game-winner in the 87th minute.
