Federal regulators have closed an investigation into what went wrong when a SpaceX Starship spacecraft — part of the most powerful launch system ever constructed — exploded during a January test flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration said on Friday it cleared the SpaceX Starship vehicle to return to flight operations while an investigation into the January 16 Starship Flight 7 mishap remains open.

SpaceX is slated to launch its Starship for the eighth time from Boca Chica, Texas, Friday, though plans could be thwarted if the FAA fails to give the green light.

Per a regional airspace advisory, Starship Flight 8 has a launch window that opens Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. EST.

SpaceX plans to launch its Starship megarocket on its next test flight on Monday. The vehicle’s upper stage exploded over the Atlantic Ocean during the last such test.

SpaceX has received approval from the U.S Federal Aviation Administration for Flight 8 of its Starship megarocket, which is targeted for Monday (March 3).

The test flight will be a repeat of what SpaceX hoped to achieve on the previous Starship launch in January, when the rocket broke apart and showered debris over the Atlantic Ocean and Turks and Caicos Islands.
