Hurricane Erin forced tourists to cut their vacations short on North Carolina’s Outer Banks even though the monster storm is expected to stay offshore after lashing part of the Caribbean with rain and wind on Monday.

Powerful Hurricane Erin is expected to bring high seas, big rip currents, and rough surf as it moves between the United States and Bermuda.

As of 5:00 p.m. AST on Sunday, Erin’s center was positioned approximately 275 miles northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico, tracking west-northwest at 13 mph. Although no longer directly affecting the area, the storm’s outer bands are still delivering heavy rainfall, dangerous marine conditions, and life-threatening surf along coastal areas.

After reaching Category 5 over the weekend, Hurricane Erin is now down to Category 2 but the large hurricane is still causing problems off the East Coast of the U.S.

The orders have enabled Puerto Rico's government to fix and restore lines and ensure sustained energy resilience.

Tropical storm watches expand from the Virginia beaches to Fenwick Island, Delaware, including Ocean City, Maryland.
