As of the latest advisory on Aug. 11, Invest 97L has a high chance — 90% — chance of strengthening in the next seven days.
The tropical wave that moved off Africa Friday has been designated Invest 97L, and it is on the cusp of becoming a tropical depression or named storm. The next name on the list is Erin.
The National Hurricane Center is predicting Invest 97L could become a tropical depression or tropical storm as early as later this morning, Aug. 11.
Invest 97L so far has a medium chance of developing into a named storm next week, National Hurricane Center forecasters said.
Invest 97L is now in the Atlantic joining Invest 96L and NHC forecasters said if development comes it'll be next week.
A system of low pressure moving west across the Atlantic has a high chance of become a tropical depression or storm this week.
The large disturbance over the eastern tropical Atlantic - officially tagged Invest 97L - is heading west in the general direction of the Caribbean. It has found a gap in the Saharan dust, so this one has the best chance of organizing into a tropical storm or hurricane of any system we've tracked this season.
