As Texas hurtles toward a flashpoint on a GOP effort to redraw congressional districts, California Democrats are answering with a plan of their own.

Democrats are banking in a big way on California and its governor, Gavin Newsom, to help them fight back against Republicans in a burgeoning gerrymandering arms race.

California already has an overwhelmingly Democratic delegation in Congress. Gov. Newsom’s plan could give his party five more seats and offset a Texas gerrymander.

During his virtual town hall several days ago, Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) remarked on the GOP's redistricting of Texas and expressed his support for California Governor Gavin Newsom's approach to "fight fire with fire" by redistricting California.
