Wisconsin flood damage, FEMA officials to assess aftermath this week
FEMA will be in southeast Wisconsin later this week to assess the aftermath of severe storms and historic floods, FOX6 News confirmed on Tuesday.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s office said Tuesday crews from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will arrive in Wisconsin as early as Thursday to begin their damage assessment from last weekend’s historic floods.
Add the Milwaukee Common Council to the list of Wisconsin officials asking President Donald Trump and FEMA administrators to declare the Aug. 9-10 rainstorms a natural disaster and provide federal aid.
Gov. Tony Evers is asking the Trump administration for FEMA assistance as Milwaukee and other areas continue to recover from the weekend’s historic flooding.
"The damage throughout the area is overwhelming," Mayor Cavalier Johnson said after visiting home with David Crowley and Tammy Baldwin.
The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) is advising of available shelter options ahead of forecasted severe weather.
Milwaukee is continuing to recover from record-breaking flooding, with federal help up in the air, and neighbors relying on each other.
