Political news network MSNBC is preparing to change its name as Comcast Corp.’s NBCUniversal spins off some of its media brands into a separate company called Versant.
MSNBC will change its name to My Source News Opinion World (MS NOW) and unveil a new logo later this year as part of the cable news channel’s spinoff from the Comcast-owned media company NBCUniversal.
Cable news channel MSNBC will rebrand as My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, according to internal memos seen by Reuters today, as parent Comcast presses ahead with the planned separation of many NBCUniversal cable networks later this year.
In addition to MS Now, USA Network and Golf Channel will merge into a new USA Sports brand and CNBC will change its logo but retain its name
Some of that tumult hit today as Comcast announced plans to rebrand MSNBC so that the “NBC” part was no more, dubbing it MS Now. The move left investors mildly pleased, and shares notched up fractionally in Monday afternoon’s trading.
MSNBC announced on Monday that it will change its name to MS Now, short for My Source News Opinion World, later this year.
Versant is on track to be spun out from Comcast before the end of 2025, Lazarus confirmed. The assets held by the new company generated about $7 billion in revenue last year.
Comcast unveiled eight new members of the first board of directors of Versant Media Group, which will house the bulk of NBCUniversal’s cable networks and certain digital businesses, including Versant CEO Mark Lazarus.
