Fans online were outraged when Mexican singer and rapper Peso Pluma (born Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija) was allowed to perform only one song at the FireAid Benefit concert on January 30, 2025.
As the 2025 BMI Champion Award recipient, Peso Pluma joins a distinguished list of past honorees, including SZA, Khalid, Residente, Sebastian Krys, Inflo, Mark Ronson, Keith Urban and others.
"Peso Pluma was financed by the cartel. He did take money; he laundered money for them and they made his career for him in some way. It's not uncommon," he said.
