James can continue expanding his NBA legacy and could eventually climb to the top of the league’s all-time wins list. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar currently holds the record with 1,074 victories, a mark the Lakers veteran could surpass if he chooses to return for a 24th season rather than retire at the end of what could be his final year in Los Angeles.
That context matters because trade chatter briefly resurfaced this summer after LeBron opted into his $52.6 million player option. Opting in kept him in L.A. and preserved his no-trade protections, making any deal extremely complicated.
In his most recent game action against the 76ers in Philadelphia on Sunday, James turned back the clock. He scored a season-high 29 points, including 10 straight for the Lakers in the fourth quarter that helped propel L.A. to a win. In the process, James passed Robert Parish to move in second on the NBA’s all-time regular season wins list.
