More than 6,000 student visas have been revoked by the State Department since January as the Trump Administration cracks down on international students and other immigrants to the U.S, the agency says.

While the criminal element accounted for the lion's share, a number of high-profile cases have involved student visa recipients expressing support for Palestine, Hamas, or otherwise espousing anti-Israel sentiments.

A small number were revoked for “support for terrorism,” a State Department official said, without elaborating. Other crimes included assault and burglary.
