Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Thursday that he will deploy more than 5,000 Texas National Guard troops to help respond to protests in his state against President Donald Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday morning that he deployed over 2,000 troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and more than 5,000 Texas National Guard soldiers across the state ahead of the planned protests on Saturday,

Abbott's announcement did not detail where the troops were sent, but some were seen at a protest Wednesday night in downtown San Antonio near the Alamo.
