The greatest success of James DeMonaco's The Purge franchise is its ability to exist just outside the bounds of the reality in which we exist, heightening our world just enough that we're entertained while the social commentary and brutality of the films sink in.

If he's referring to Grillo's character, then the sequel could be set within The Purge films' 30-year timeline. Part 6 could also be set in the far future, and the returning characters could appear in flashbacks. DeMonaco also promised the movie would feature strong female protagonists.
