OpenAI’s debut of GPT-5 came with many promises of a smarter, more effective AI platform capable of fulfilling many of the dreams of AI enthusiasts. The company was so confident in GPT-5 that it became the default model for ChatGPT, while the previous flagship GPT-4o model was removed from the AI chatbot.

ChatGPT-5 is getting improved personality after OpenAI received a slate of criticism from users saying that GPT-5 responses feel cold, compared to GPT-4o.

After a week of noisy frustration, canceled subscriptions, and endless screenshots, ChatGPT quietly flipped a switch. The app now exposes a legacy model picker that lets you choose GPT-4o again. It is not a complete return to the old model buffet, but for many users this is the one choice they needed to get their workflows back on track.
