A federal appeals court Thursday delayed an order requiring the Trump administration to return control of the California National Guard to Gov. Gavin Newsom, dealing the administration a temporary reprieve to what would have been a major reversal of its policy on the protests in Los Angeles.

A federal appeals court late Thursday temporarily halted a judge's ruling that had blocked the Trump administration from deploying members of the California National Guard in Los Angeles and ordered President Trump to return control to Gov.

Trump lawyers told the court that Trump has "no obligation" to consult, or even notify California Gov. Newsom before federalizing National Guard troops to quell anti-ICE protests.
