Tehran said American bases in the Middle East could face reprisals if the U.S. helped repel Iranian attacks on Israel.
The reaction was noticeably different on Friday than it was after the last time Israel attacked Iran, when several countries provided backup and resources.
The conflict between Israel and Iran has shaped the Middle East for decades. It was largely on a low boil as the two sides attacked each other — mostly quietly and in Iran’s case often by proxy — while avoiding a full-blown war.

The Israeli army says 200 jets struck more than 100 sites across Iran in a large-scale attack. Israel’s military says it launched a wave of strikes on Iran, hitting key nuclear facilities and killing senior Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists in a major attack.
Sir Keir Starmer has said RAF jets and military assets are being sent to the Middle East. It comes after Iran warned the UK, US and France their bases in the region will be targeted if they help Israel stop Tehran's strikes.
