Despite being thousands of miles away from Gaza, North Texans have been mobilizing for months, helping get humanitarian aid to those who need it most.

Britain said on Tuesday it would recognise a Palestinian state unless Israel takes steps to relieve suffering in Gaza, where starvation is spreading, and reaches a ceasefire in the nearly two-year war with Hamas.

Israel's prime minister is facing growing international pressure to end the war in Gaza that has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians. A leading food crisis group is now warning of widespread famine in Gaza as deaths from starvation rise.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification said Gaza has teetered on the brink of famine for two years, but recent developments have “dramatically worsened” the situation, including “increasingly stringent blockades” by Israel.

"People are literally dying with the hunger; the hunger is killing them. Starvation is being used as a weapon," Dr. Bilal Piracha said.

The U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation operates four sites providing food boxes with 2,400 daily calories, while facing criticism from the U.N. and several American allies.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. will partner with Israel to run new food centers in Gaza to address the worsening humanitarian crisis there, but he and U.S. officials offered few additional details about the plan or how it would differ from existing food distribution centers.
